Halloween eve!!! Let the preparations begin!!!

Day 76

I ran into another hijabi at school today during our annual symposium for all students completing research. Hearing her say "I always love running into other hijabis. It makes me so happy," put a smile on my face. It is nice to get a smile or salaams from people who would otherwise be strangers.

Days 73

Looking forward to Halloween. For a reason I can't explain, I have been more excited about this holiday now than as a child. I think it's the combination of for-real dressing up (I've come across some killer costumes out in the street) and candy (SUGAR) and seeing all the little ones have fun. Love this decor from a house in my neighborhood. They really got into the spirit. It's hard to see, but one of the skeletons has a spray can and is vandalizing the building. Teehee

I couldn't help but bust out laughing at this pic. It's how I envision my golden years with the hubby. You are only as old as you feel ;-) Thanks FlipBoard for the reminder.

Day 66

It's never to late to show proof of your educational accomplishments!!

Day 65

My husband and I went out for a quick IT job on Saturday to fix his former graduate advisor's computer. After he finished, we were presented with a gorgeous lithograph of New Orleans. He had had the same lithograph at one point in time in the past, but the original gifter - his grandmother - un gifted it from him and decided to keep it for herself. Funny how it came back to him in the end anyways.

Day 64

Made my first batch of edible rice pudding the other night!! I hated it as a child and a good friend showed me the error of my ways this past summer. She is such a good influence.

Day 60

Very very yummy traditional pizza pie - sauce on top and cheese on the bottom!! Good food and good company; you can barely see my friends in the background, my eyes were filled by the sight of pizza.

Day 56

"Nothing haunts us like the things we didn't buy" is a quote I've seen floating around Instagram these past couple weeks. I would like to change it to "Nothing haunts us like the things we didn't try to win!" One of my favorite fashion sites is having a contest sponsored by No nonsense to win a gift card; I never win anything, so here goes nothing!! Keep your fingers crossed for me and check out Kendra's blog.

Response to Kendra's questions:
My favorite look is the Boot Sock. I have been looking forward to trying this style out myself.
YES! I would wear skeggings; they look fun and unique. I also like the extra modesty ^.^

** Disclosure (in case it isn't clear already): I received a sweepstakes entry in exchange for blogging about this promotion.

Day 55

One of my favorite shows on NPR is This American Life. Recently, one of the producers of TAL started a spinoff series called Serial. Serial follows a story, in depth, over the course of many episodes. At first, it sounds like some long, boring drawn out thing compared to TAL, but I have been thoroughly sucked in by the first two episodes already. This first season of Serial focuses on the murder of a Baltimore high school student by her ex-boyfriend. At first glance, the case seems simple open and shut, but the reporting skills of the Serial staff bring to light the many nuances and ambiguities in this case. It's riveting to follow, but also extremely bittersweet when you consider that lives have been forever changed by things that were said and not said, by actions taken and not taken. This is exceptional storytelling and journalism at its best.

Day 54

My newest food obsession!! Buffalo chicken nuggets. They are insanely addictive; I just can't stop cooking them and eating them.

Day 53

I have a slightly strange obsession with loving all things related to cleaning. This past year I started using the Swiffer line of products and have not thought to look back once. Sunday, while doing grocery shopping, I tried out the king of all vacuums: the amazing Dyson. It was an unreal experience. I absolutely loved it!! There is nothing more empowering than fighting dirt with top of the line cleaning products. I can't wait to get my hands on one. Hopefully before the end of the year.

Day 52

Eid Mubarak!! I wasn't able to make the trip with my husband to visit my family this year, so instead we had a quiet holiday in the city. We prayed at a really cute Indonesian mosque just around the corner from our house. All the people were extremely friendly and welcoming. Plus we got to take home several yummy Indonesian goodies to munch on. Overall it ended up being a nice holiday.
